spirit animal

Spirit Animal, draws its inspiration from an ancient era, a time when London was known as Lownida. According to legend, the city was shaped by a Celtic god—but that’s a tale for another time.

The Celts believed in the spiritual powers of animals, using their characteristics as symbols of strength. This concept resonated with me, leading me to create designs that embody these local creatures’ unique qualities.

Since I strive to create my work as locally as possible, it feels fitting to focus on four local animals: the otter, grass snake, frog, and parakeet.

The otter symbolises joie de vivre with its naturally playful behaviour. The grass snake represents peace, as it rarely bites or attacks, preferring non-violent ways to handle threats. The frog embodies personal metamorphosis, reflecting its remarkable transformation from a water-based life to thriving on land. Our final source of inspiration is the parakeet. While it may not have been around in Celtic times, it's now a vibrant presence in London. The parakeet symbolises freedom—freedom to be unapologetically yourself, as colourful and bold as one’s spirit.
